Your Life is a Work of Art Part 1

The ARTISTS

When you picture an artist what are some of the images that come to your mind?

If you’re anything like me, I have the tendency to think of the greats I learned about in my mandatory art appreciation class in college, like Dali, da Vinci, Picasso, Mozart, and Hitchcock. These artists come to mind because they earned their place in history by the works they created.

The WORK of an artist:

Artists have a gift for interpreting life through their work. The good ones create works that speak to the deeper things of life.  The really great ones create works that disturb us and force us out of our comfort zones, challenging us to see things in a different way.

The beauty of art is that it is experienced differently by everyone. Two people can stare at the same painting and come away with two very different interpretations. Because art is subjective, it speaks to us what we need to hear in the moment.

Some art speaks into the depths of our souls.

It’s that feeling you get when you hear a really great song for the first time, and you play it over and over because it makes you feel some kind of way and you just can’t describe it. Or when you walk out of a movie speechless because you are trying to process what you just experienced.

The work of an artist often speaks to us in unexpected ways. Art imitates life like this. Your life can touch another person’s life in unexpected ways.

Art is a Way of Life:

Art is about more than the things we hang our walls, watch on a screen, or listen to on our headphones. Art is a way of life. Just as the masters used their mediums to create masterpieces, there is a way to live your life so that it becomes a masterpiece that positively affects others.

Art is living more deeply than the shallow, superficial ways of the status quo. It is taking the time to connect with others beyond the casual handshake, or “Hello, how are you?” It is taking time to be present with others, while your phone on silent.

Art is about connecting with others in meaningful ways. You can live this kind of art every day. It is about stepping into a moment and living it in such a way that you want to live that moment over and over and over again.

Art is being present to the experience right in front of you.

Art is being a blessing and pouring yourself into the lives of others.

Art as a way of life, is joining in the creative work of the One who created all things and said, “…it is very good”(Genesis 1).

The world needs you to live this kind of art.
